The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media in mid 2014 and we had the opportunity to be a part of it. The challenge involves dumping a bucket of ice cold water on someone’s head to create awareness about the ALS disease and encourage donations for its research. The activity is filmed and the participants challenge others to do the same within 24 hours or donate or do both.
The challenge first received a boosted media attention in the United States on June 30, 2014, when personalities of the program Morning Drive, which airs weekdays on Golf Channel, televised the social-media phenomenon, and performed a live, on-air Ice Bucket Challenge. Soon, it spread like fire on social media with celebrities coming forward and taking up the challenge. When celebrities like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates took the challenge, it reached out to India and other countries.
We were nominated by Webandcrafts to do the ALS Ice Bucket challenge. Check out the video of Mittu Tigi, our Founder, doing the challenge on behalf of Zhooyi. We in turn challenged three people viz. Manoj Thomas from Winningways, Vijay S Paul of IZE Creative and Nithin Sam Oommen from Profoundis to do the challenge or donate on ALSA.org or do both. We have also donated for the cause.
Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It is the most common of motor neuron diseases. The ALS Association has managed to gather donations up to $70 million (till date) this year with Ice Bucket Challenge. It feels good to be part of a cause.
We challenge you to do the #ALSIceBucketChallenge and donate on ALSA.org.
